Brandon has a obvious love of the outdoors, “I consider myself the luckiest person in the world. I hunt for a living… that’s arguably the greatest job ever!” As a child Brandon grew up with a family that showed him the outdoors from a very young age.  His Grandfather and Uncle he says played the most critical role in shaping the young hunters future. “Both my Grandfather and Uncle really took the time to lead the way, thank god they had the patience of Job.” Bates grew up on the Gibson Ranch that sprawled out over fifteen hundred acres of southeastern Oklahoma. The land provides some of the best whitetail hunting in the Nation, also an abundance of wild Turkeys and prime duck hunting. Bates adds ” It’s the kind of place that if all hell breaks lose… you go there and live of the land”

At present time, Bates is now a part two television properties that air on the Outdoor Channel. Bates is the current host of “Rocky Geared Up” that airs Saturday mornings at 11:30 am EST. The show which Bates opens, closes and narrates takes viewers all across North America in search of trophy big game. In 2009 you can also find him making appearances on “Elk Chronicles” presented by the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation the show airs on the same network as “Geared Up” but on Thursday nights at 11:00 pm EST. Bates has driving passion to make outdoor programming more entertainment based. He wants people to tune in because they are entertained and tune in to see two guys whispering in a tree stand. “There is a changing of the guard happening right now in outdoor TV, I think the days of a guy and a handy-cam making it to air are almost over…thank god”
